Sufi music that takes to trance – Bulleh Shah

Sufi music that takes to trance – Bulleh Shah

This song comes from Bulleh Shah
Mysterious is the turn of time. The man who had been refused by the mullahs to be buried after his death in the community graveyard because of his unorthodox views, today enjoys worldwide reverence and recognition. The tomb of Bulleh Shah in Qasur and the area around it is today the only place free of collective refuse, and the privileged of the city pay handsomely to be buried in the proximity of the man they had once rejected. “This radical change has been possible because people have been impressed in the course of time by the holy way of Bullah’s life and the efficacy of his teachings.

“The greatest Sufi poet of the Punjab was Mir Bulleh Shah Qadiri Shatari. ” Because of his pure life and high spiritual attainments, he is equally popular among all communities. Scholars and dervishes have called him “The Sheikh of Both the Worlds,” “The man of God,” “The Knower of Spiritual Grace” and by other equally edifying titles. Considered as the greatest mystic poet of the Punjab, his compositions have been regarded as “the pinnacle of Sufi literature.” His admirers compare his writings and philosophy to those of Rumi and Shams-i-Tabriz. At present, he is held in equally great esteem in Northern India and Pakistan.

Video: [gjaH2iuoYWE]

Brilliantly sung by Arif Lohar and Meesha.
(my slight variation of translation in the video, as I feel appropriate)

Alif allah chambay di booti, they mereay murshid maan vich lai hoo
My master has planted the fragrant seed of love in my heart

Ho nafi uss baat da paani dey kay
Which flourished with modesty, piety and acceptance of existence

Har raggay harjai hoo
My god is present in every throbbing pulse

Ho joog joog jeevay mera murshaid sohna
May my spiritual guide be there for ever and ever

Hathhay jissay booti lai ho
The one who blew life into me

Pir meraya jugni
I have the spirit of my Guide

As way allah waliyan di jugni ji
The spirit of all the messengers who brought his message

Ae way nabbi pak di jugni ji
The spirit of the Holy prophet

Ae way maula ali wali jugni ji
The spirit of Ali and his followers

Ae way merry pir di jugni ji
The spirit of my Saint

Ae way saaray sabaz di jugni ji
The spirit of all His words

Dum gutkoon, dum gutkoon, dum gutkoon
Everytime I think of you my God, my teachers, my path, my heart races and beats a special beat

Karay Saaeein parthay tay klma nabi da parthay saaein
So the Fakir recites the kalma when ever he thinks of god

Jugni taat khaeein vich thaal
O my creation, share what ever you have

Chad duniya dey janjaal
Remove yourself from worldly concerns

Kuch nai nibna bandiya naal
There is nothing people can help you with and that you can take to after world

Rakhi saabat sidh ammal
Keep your actions and intentions pure

Jugni dig payee vich roi
So absorbed was the creation that she stumbled into a ditch

Otthay ro ro kamli hoi
There she walled relentlessly

Oddi vaath naye lainda koi
But there was no one who enquired about her

They kalmay binna nai mildi toi
Remember, there is no salvation without remembering your creator

Ho wanga charha lo kuriyon
Put on your bangles, girls

Mere daata dey darbar diyan
those that you get at your masters shrine

Ho naa kar Dheeya khair piyari
Daughter, don’t be proud of your youth

Maan daindiya gailryaan
your mother scruffs and scolds you

Din din talhi juwani jaandi
With each passing day, your youth slips by

Joon sohna puthia lariyaan
Even gold when put in furnace moulds itself

Aurat marad, sherzaday sohney
Women, men are so beautiful

O moti, O laa lariyaan
Like pearls, like the gems

Sir da sarfa kar naa kairey
Those who are not self-centered

Peer prem pyar lariyan
They are the ones who truly love humanity

O data day darbaar jaw ke ache
Where ever you visit the place of my saint

Pawan khair sawa lariyan
God fulfills all your wishes and showers you with His blessing
